The Alpha Workshops is an award-winning design and decorative arts studio founded in New York City. Studio capabilities include the design of custom art installations or interior decor refurbishments; handmade wallpapers for residential and commercial interiors; and the hand-weaving and dying of custom interior fabrics and art textiles. Recent projects include Saks Fifth Avenue, The Woolworth Tower, Convene, the Polynesian at the POD Hotel, Gotham Hall, and Zaytinya at The Ritz-Carlton New York.

WALLPAPERS | PAINTED PAPERS

Handpainted wallpaper has been one of the Alpha Workshop’s signature products since it was first introduced in 2001. Inspiration for the Painted Papers Collection comes from the diverse life experiences of our artisans and their inherent exposure to the art and architecture of New York City. Our Painted Papers wallpaper is made-to-order and custom colorways are available for no additional charge.

WALLPAPERS | TEXTURE COLLECTION

The radiant pearlescent surfaces of our Texture Collection suffuse their enviornment with elegance. To create the designs in our Texture Collection, our artisans fold, crease, and otherwise manipulate the paper ground to derive unique surfaces which are then painted by hand. Our Texture Collection wallpaper is made-to-order and custom colorways are available for no additional charge.

WALLPAPERS | THE ANNIVERSARY CAPSULE COLLECTION

Five of our classic wallpaper patterns, each realized in three special-edition colorways. Engineered with design industry professionals in mind, our Anniversary Capsule Collection celebrates our creative legacy and ongoing commitment to artistic innovation.

TEXTILES

Introduced in 2022, our textile collection takes inspiration from Modernist art, historic decorative motifs, and traditional dying and weaving practices. The collection includes interior fabrics suited to upholstery, table linens, and drapery, and fine art panels for display/decor.

LIGHTING

Our Eden Roc lighting collection was inspired by textures of rock candy. Lighting forms are produced by expert makers on Long Island, then hand-finished in our studios. Each lamp is unique and possesses a distinctive beauty.

HOW ENVIRONMENTALLY  SUSTAINABLE IS THE ALPHA WORKSHOPS?

The Alpha Workshops was founded on the idea that design can work for the greater good. This guides all of the decision-making at Alpha where a do-no-harm approach informs our business choices as well as our training program. In producing our products and services, we make every effort to have a low impact on the environment.

When you specify our work, you can be assured that:

• Our artisanal products are finished by hand using traditional techniques at our NYC studios. We do not use any large machinery.
• Our wallpaper installs with water-based pastes.
• Our vendor partners are as local as possible – our wallpaper substrate is sourced from a manufacturer in New Jersey and our lighting forms are cast on Long Island.
• The majority of our handmade products are made-to-order, which means less waste.
